Gilberto Diaz, 65, passed unexpectedly from this life on February 6, 2017 in Deer Park, TX. He has been a long time resident of the area and a very industrious man. He was born January 27, 1952 in Mc Allen, TX, graduating from high school there. After high school he joined the Navy and worked as an avionics tech,
graduating 3rd in his class. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he was back in McAllen where he met Diana, who lived in nearby Mission. Being convinced Diana was the “one”, he persuaded her to move to Houston, where he was going to be working with his Uncle. They started their family and new adventures in life. Gilbert also worked for Shell for a bit and he and Diana settled in the Deer Park area. He also helped his family with Gil’s Produce, a fruit stand on Broadway in La Porte. True to his nature, he wanted to do more for his family and decided they should become entrepreneurs. For many years he and Diana owned and operated Speedy Taco on Main Street in La Porte. It was a family effort, including the kids. For the adults, he and Diana also had a night club at Hwy146 and Main -Starship 2000. So many adventures during his life, full, happy and loved. As their family grew, he transitioned to Electrical Contracting. Industrious and smart, Gilbert studied for his Electrician’s license and opened Straight Edge Construction.
Gilbert was always generous with his heart. His family came first, but he was caring and helpful to many that worked for him and always did his very best with his customers. A bit mischievous and prone to practical jokes, he also enjoyed his music and would spend time spinning the records (mostly 70 & 80’s) and singing to Diana. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Diana Diaz. His children, Zulika Diaz-Frederickson and her husband, Deron; Gilbert Jr. and wife, Kara Diaz, Dominique Diaz, Marcus Diaz and Andrew Diaz, also survive him. His siblings will always have fond memories; Erasmus Diaz Jr., Minerva Vallejo, Hermelinda Garcia, Juan Jesus Diaz, Irma Reyna, Patty Nacol and Melissa Fernandez.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Erasmo Diaz Sr. and Olga Diaz.
So many memories to share. He will be missed by all.
