Obituary for Helen "Ruth" Stout

Helen Ruth Norris Stout was born on Saturday, December 21, 1935 on the family farm in Spearsville, LA and lost her battle with acute leukemia on Friday, October 19, 2018. She was the eldest child of Joe Add Norris and Berdelle Howell Norris. The family relocated to Texas when Ruth was a little girl finally settling in Alvin, TX and graduating from Alvin High School in 1953. Ruth went on to study religion at Wayland Baptist University then transferring to Stephen F. Austin State University that same year to study nutrition and dietetics. Not realizing either of those dreams, Ruth returned to Alvin and attended Massey Business College in Houston, TX where she was successful in completing the program that would serve her well the remainder of her life. Ruth worked as a secretary for some of the largest refineries along the Houston ship channel (Celanese, Upjohn, Dow Chemical, and Exxon Mobil). Ruth’s passion for religion and diet would both remain a constant in her life. She loved the Bible and was passionate in her study of it until the end of her days. Ruth married Arthur Lee Stout in March of 1954 and from this union she was blessed with 4 children (John Kevin, Nancy Janelle (Gary Allen), Jack Gregory (deceased 1985), and Melinda Kaye). Additionally, she was blessed with 4 granddaughters (Lori (Charles Smith), Crystal (Doug Egger), Kelly (Jeff Fredericksen), and Lindsay Stout (who preceded her in death)). Ruth’s most precious jewels were her great-grands (Kayley Hope, Hannah Ruth, Skyla Rhea, Grace Rose, Kinsley Kaye, and Grant Scott). Ruth is survived by her two sister’s Peggy and Mary (Bill). Her brother Billy Joe Norris (Butch) predeceased her. She is also survived by nephews (Robert (Tandy) and Zach (Karie). All of those whose lives she touched are invited to join the family for a celebration of her life at a memorial service at Stepping Stone Funeral Home in La Porte, TX on Tuesday, October 23rd at 5:30 PM. If you prefer to make a donation in lieu of flowers the family requests that the donation be made to the Armand Bayou Nature Center https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/1649799.
